Injecting C02

Post by Rhodesy » Tue May 19, 2015 12:49 pm

Can anyone reccomend a device which would allow me to inject C02 into secondary FV's, bottling buckets etc prior to filling? Preferably these would take the 8g cartridges I use for my tap a draft?

FVs and bottling buckets won't hold pressure. You'll just blow the lid off.

I would just be looking to purge out any oxygen ahead of filling? I wouldn't want to be holding any pressure

but with the 8g carts you have no way of controlling the flow... Just one squirt would be plenty to pop the lid quite violently I'd imagine.

If you want to start co2 purging and aiming for an oxygen-free workflow post-ferment, it's time to go shiny.

You can get tyre inflators but even they use 16g carts. The minimum I'd want would be an S30 which should cost £20 and £5 for refills.
In the long term though a full sized cylinder with regulator would be best.

Ahh ok. I have an old Whisky barrel I am going to age an imperial stout in once brewed and fancied doing it there. I know oxidation is expected in barrel aging but had read in BYO to purge.
