Conical

Post by cqout » Sat Jul 18, 2015 5:19 pm

While transfering my ipa to my cornie today i only managed to fill about 16 liters - this means i have lost about 9 liters to my conical fermenter - is this normal?

I don't use a conical, but do you mean you dumped 9l first, through the bottom?

To be honest i didnt think i dumped that much out but also once i had turned the racking arm it had left a lot still in the conical

Is it a conical or a bucket with a cone bottom?

Is there anything stopping you filling the corny via the dump valve, rather than the racking arm?

Edit: I guess by using the dump valve, you might get remaining bits of yeast in the beer

I'm just wondering if you pointed the racking arm downward and used pressure from CO2 if you'd get more of the beer out via it?

with the 7 gallon ss brewtech chronical you lose 1.5 litres so if you leave the yeast and trub in before racking
then this reduces the loss to about .75l
