Cornelius kegs - maintenance

Post by Frothy » Thu Jun 22, 2006 8:26 pm

Just bought a couple of cornelius kegs from Geoff at DTS (£25 each reconditioned inc' couplers) highly recommended. http://www.beer-coolers.co.uk

They have ball lock type quick connects and I've checked that they both hold gas. Apart from lubing up the larger of the rubber gaskets with petroleum jelly what should I do to keep them in good nick? should I lubricate the quick connect mechanisms with anything?

Frothers - £25 is a great price, perhaps you could put the DTS contact details in the Bargain Basement section ?

They were part of a full system so I can't promise they'll be the same price but he's a very reasonable guy. His workshop was full of every conceivable beer dispensing device.

WOW... That's a fantastic price, especially if they are fully reconditioned.

A lot of the time I believe reconditioning only includes new O-Rings. But not allways the relief valve & poppet valves.

As for maintenance, I also lube the Post O-Rings as it makes it easier to get the disconnects on/off. Without lubricating the posts, they tend to bind on the O-Rings.

I often find I have to re-lube them during use too if they get a bit stiff.

I apply a smear of keg-lube to the seals (on lid and dispense/gas tubes and on the poppets) and the post o-rings as RR does.
