How to power 12V Solar Water Pump
Hi,
Is it okay to power these pumps with an old redundant 12v DC power supply?

Absolutely.
I would recommend putting something like this in the circuit to control the speed. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-24V-3A-DC ... 3ceec9039f

I power mine from an old 12V 2A psu I had spare. Run through an 12V LED controller (couple of quid of ebay) this allows me to control the flow rate.

I run my pump on a tattoo machine power supply, variable speed with digital voltage display. Runs great

I do the same, though I've read positive things about the tattoo machine power supplies. I just happened to have an LED controller lying about.Hairybiker wrote:I power mine from an old 12V 2A psu I had spare. I have a couple of universal AC/DC variable adaptors which go from 1.5 - 12 volts.
I assume these can also be used to vary the flow rate for solar pumps?

Just looked, 1 is 300mA and the other not stated so will avoid using these.
