Temp gauge leaking.

What washers and where do you place to stop temp gauge leaking ?

Mine drips on the outside.

Have tried with silcon o ring or fibre washer on outside but both leaks

Hole is 20 mm cut with q Max cutter

Probably leaking through the thread , mine did , ptfe tape sorted it.

O-ring on outside so sits against outer face of pot and face of the hex nut part behind thermometer head

So you would put the o-ring on the thermometer threaded fitting then insert the thermometer through the hole in the pot

Then metal washer and nut added and tighten up inside the pot

Hopefully not one of our thermometers as ours have 1/4" BSP threaded fitting needing a 14mm hole not a 20mm hole. The 1/4" BSP fitting leaves a nice big face on the hex nut part behind thermometer head for the o-ring to seal against very easily without PTFE and just tightening up by hand

You can make soft heat/food safe diy washers from cheap ebay silicone baking sheets,

PTFE can also seal well, if you can thread some through the eye of a SS thrust washer, and wrap round n round a few times looping through the eye, (transferring the tape to a drinking straw 'bobbin' to pass it through the centre) when pinched tight the tape will seal for you again providing a heat/foodsafe seal.

Last resort is fernox lsx thread sealer, when cured its virtually pure silicone, tho does contain some nasty volatiles before cured its rated safe for hot/cold potable water..

I've not got AHB dials, but for both dials and my taps I've never managed to easily get a leak free fitting with the o-ring on the outside. If I put the o-ring on the inside under the hex nut (ideally a recessed nut) then it seals perfectly every time.

Ok, I guess they are slightly different fitting to AHB dials

Presumably PTFE also required in the technique above as don't see what would stop a potential small drip leak by fluid spiralling round the thread. May get away without, but think it would be a bit hit and miss without the thread sealed

These show an excellent way to seal fittings.

Homemade silicone washers inside and out with an inner hole tight enough that I had to stretch it over the threads worked fine for me. ASDA silicone cake tin provided the material. HTH
