fitting a domed false bottom

Post by DarrenSL » Mon Feb 29, 2016 10:42 pm

Quick question... does a domed false bottom like this

http://www.angelhomebrew.co.uk/en/acces ... ottom.html

just sit, unattached, on the bottom of the tun? Does it need to fit flush to the sides? The false bottom is 12 inches in diameter, my tun/kettle is just short of 14 inches. Will this work?

Thanks

You possibly already have the answers, but yes it just sits unattached, and no it doesn't need to fit tight mine sits in the bottom of a 70l thermo pot and works really well with little dead loss.

That's right just sits on the bottom. There's some information on it here

It sits loose in my thermopot too.

If you don't want the elbow and hose barb in the middle you can replace it with a 1/2" BSP Hex Plug:

Ingredients: Water, Barley, Hops, Yeast, Seaweed, Blood, Sweat, The swim bladder of a sturgeon, My enemies tears, Scenes of mild peril, An otter's handbag and Riboflavin.
