Not so new shiny

Post by graemet » Sat Mar 12, 2016 3:57 pm

I've had this thermopot for quite a while but only recently got round to making a start on sorting it out. After a bit of advice and a purchase from Mrlard, this is the end result.

Leak test failed dismally, with a pretty nasty leak at the tap, but nothing on the underside, so a bit of ptfe tape should hopefully help with that.

I've got a stainless kettle to test next, once the thermopot finishes draining...

I need to knock up a brew stand, so that could be a job for the easter weekend. Unless I find something suitable before then.

I could probably BIAB in the kettle on the workbench I have, but I'm not certain it would hold the weight

Looks nice. You mention of knocking up a brew stand has made my mind up. I need to raise up my HLT and was considering making it from wood. Grrr. What's the point having a MIG (and a modicum of ability to use it) if I don't do the manly thing and make one from angle and box section. Better get ordering some steel and fire up the blue glue....

I considered wood for mine, and then pondered using unistrut, or bolting together slotted angle but I think the best way forward is to talk nice (or bribe with beer) to my cousin's boyfriend and see if he can weld me something suitable

for the pots I have wood will be far too bulky, and I'm not sure how stable unistrut or bolted angle would be.
