Building a fridge shelf - box section and corner joiners

Post by Matt in Birdham » Wed Jul 13, 2016 5:21 pm

I need to build a more substantial shelf in my fermenting fridge to accommodate my new chronical, and was thinking (since I'm not a welder) that I might use aluminium box section and plastic joiners ([url=http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Square-Alumin ... 3uQ-GGCtaw]this type of thing). I've not used them before, so just wondering if anyone knows what the strength is like? I'm guessing 1" alu box is plenty strong enough, just the plastic bits I'm not sure on. I'm then thinking of using a sheet of perforated (for air flow) alu or stainless, riveted to the top of the box section (hence alu box, since I don't really enjoy drilling in stainless). Any thoughts on how strong this perforated sheet is? Typically 1mm thick, which sounds a little thin but could be OK in stainless, but there is some 2mm about as well.
