Heating elements touching, is this ok?

Post by chris246810 » Mon Jul 25, 2016 4:11 pm

So I've just received my second heating element through the post for my boiler, installed it into the pot only to find that the ends of the two elements touch.
I already cut the hole as I had one element and measured it so i thought another exactly the same would fit with a small gap between them but it turns out the second one is a few mm longer than the first.

Could this cause me any problems when I come to use it?

Overheating is the problem, can you swap with the inlet above?

Possibly but that would mean reducing the 1" hole to half inch and expanding the half inch to 1" which is gonna be a bit of a pain to do.

Just had another look and I may be able to add a washer or 2 on the outside to bring them apart a bit.

Could you not just bend them ever so slightly ?

Would silicon washers on the inside reduce the reach of the elements?

Yeah I'd have said secure each one in a vice etc them bend them so they are offset.

I don't fancy trying to bend them, they cost me 65 quid a piece, i'd be too worried about breaking them.

Will have a look online see if I can find some 1" washers and silicone rings.

There's a bit of space on the theads so I reckon I should be able to get them apart a few mm, hopefully this will be enough

They had to bend the element to get it into that shape, rotate both of them 90 deg then give them a gental flex sidewards (in oposite directions) so they dont touch.

Sorted, did that and now have about 8mm gap between them. Hope that will do.

Thank you
