Multi kegs

Post by Doingatun » Tue Aug 01, 2006 4:20 pm

Hi, everybody my first question post :wall

All confusing thought it's the brewing that's complex art to master but the kit has left it behind - Boilers - Wort Coolers - Chiller Cabinets - Kegerators - Cornelius kegs etc etc. The other half thinks it will be cheaper to get a pub - although she wasn't complaing Sunday sat in the garden quaffing my first attempt.

Does anybody know if I can replace my King Keg's S30 valve with a Corny gas inlet poppet valve - I want to be able to run 1/2/3 kegs off my single outlet reg fitted to 6kg bar gas cyc (I was using Widjet World hose kit) and be able to change and remove kegs without gas escaping.

The S30 inlet washer had to be removed and replaced with WW's silicon loose fitting washer to allow low pressure gas pass through the valve - therefore the keg can't be primed/gassed or be removed from system without loss of gas, thought a Corni valves might be the answer?

Or is there any type of shut off/check valves or manifold available that would work with WW hose kit and S30 valve, so I could shut off or supply each keg with gas individually?

Or should I go down the Cornelius road before I spend any more.

That wasn't so bad after all.

Cheers

I think it would be difficult to mount a corny post on a KK lid as the post unscrews from a threaded fitting welded to the top of the keg, it's not a clamp through type like an S30 valve.

You say you want to go along the multi keg route - do you already have your three KK's or were you planning to buy extras? If the latter I would certainly suggest buying Cornies, bought through ebay they are no more expensive than King Kegs and i've already found (despite only having mine a week) that they are far more flexible and user friendly.

If you do already have your three KK's then may be worth looking at buying extra widget hoses and splicing a brass gas shut off into them. That way you can isolate your keg then detatch the widget cylinder without losing pressure from your barrel.

Hi Seriously thinking of investing in Cornies and been in touch with Norman?

With the max usable volume of a Cornie 4g do you make up 4 gallon recipes? what do you do with a 5g kits? - bottle what's left over or split the lot between 2 x 4g Cornies?

I bottled about 4 Ltrs and put the rest in the corny, with the bit i lost at each stage Primary to Secondry fermenters to bottling bucket there was still plenty of room in the corny I probably could have got away with just bottling a couple of litres.

Thanks for the replies going to get a corny - tucking a few bottles away for a rainy day - they wouldn't last long up here when you can see the clouds it's going to rain if you can't it's raining :( .

On transfering 5gal of beer to a corny and bottling the the few pints/litres left over, the beer being bright and free from susspended yeast do you have to add a litte yeast from the bottom of the secondary bin along with the priming sugar?

Cheers
