A "seal" of approval

Post by JamesF » Sun Oct 16, 2016 6:31 pm

A friend donated about four dozen bottles to me yesterday. They've been sitting around in his shed for longer than he can remember. He used to collect the empties to return for a deposit (yes, they've been there that long). The bottles are the original swing-top ones used for Newquay Steam Brown Ale (which also gives some idea of how long he has had them -- they stopped using the swing-top bottles over twenty years ago).

The bottles are filthy and need a good clean. Many were closed. To my amazement, despite the rubber seal on the cap having crumbled to dust where it was exposed to the elements, every single bottle I have popped open so far was clearly still properly sealed.

Sounds like a great find. Should be easy to replace the rubber seals. Good as new.
