Ok all

Show me your induction hob set ups please

So I am making a brew boss clone
Should I go induction hob or electric element?

Cheers

Had to Google the BrewBoss :) I like the stand with its winch. This could be a fun project to watch ;)

What Pot do you have your eye on? and how do you plan on building the grain bag/cage?
As to which way to go, I think you want to go Induction ;) but it may depend on how much of the brewboss system you wish to replicate?

Incorporating an induction hob into the control system may be problematic? can you apply pid control to an induction hob??? my experience with induction is very limited but iirc power on then starts the start up cycle so rapid on off switching by a controller may not result in any heat output??
ist update for months n months..

File

You just got my concern in the head about induction
I am going to use a 15 gallon SS brew tech pot and I have ordered a custom made basket with a lid from Utah biodiesel - I have a new grainfather controller kicking about so will probably pair it with an element.

Nice base for the build, the new g/f -troller sounds like a pretty good box from what ive read so far..

Do you plan on emulating the brewboss stand and winch too?? a 12.5 (real) gallon kettle fully utilised will have a heavy post mash saturated grain bill, too much for me to lift while it drains anyway ;)

Im sure induction heating can be controlled, but it may well involve cracking the induction hobs case and installing the control relay across a load carrying circuit (thicker heavier wiring) while maintaining a constant current to the hobs control circuit rather than simply switching the mains lead in on and off. But Im no electrician and am just speculating..
And if im shooting wide (as is often the case) You could still use the induction for the boil and initial heat upto strike temps and perhaps use a jug kettle herms or secondary fitted element in the kettle for the kettle rims aspect of maintaining and stepping (if required ) the mash ;)

I am not sure about emulating the stand yet - but it is a good idea to use the induction hob for initial heat and boil then let the element take over - I only need 1 hole in the pot and less elements to clean :-)
