Do they look quite smart? Looking at them can you plug a 3 pin cable straight into them?

That's my issue with the U-shaped jobbies, I'm not brilliant with electrics so how easy would it be to wire them up and make it look like a neat job? Also with there being only two pins how would you connect the earth?
The 1.5kW elements are dead easy because they take a standard kettle lead (except you want a hot conditioned lead).... That lead supplies the earth supply also. The inner plate has a threaded hole in it and you can use the supplied setscrew to screw through that hole so it contacts the boiler skin. Job done.

Ordered up four of the 2kw elements

In the description even the contacts are 304 stainless. Provided they turn up in the next few weeks I think they're a bit of a bargain lol. Will fit two and keep two for spares.

How are you going to cover the live connections to make it safe

Those UShaped Chinese element also come in a right angled version - so you connect through the base of the pot (so strong, flat surface) and it turns after 20mm or so toie along the bottom.

A freind of mine has a Biab with a 2kw and a 1 kw pair of these that been running brillianly for the past 6months or so since he built it.

Having two elements makes controlling the boil easy while giving the oomph to get up to temperature as well.

Provided there is enough thread showing I plan on fitting a junction box over it

Or if that fails then a thinner plastic box will hopefully work. Maybe something like this-

Will cross that bridge when I come to it :)

Hopefully the wife doesn't tell me off for going slightly bigger than planned. For the money it would have been rude not to go for 50L and a thermopot ;)

Pots are immaculate, no dings or scratches. The best bit is I ordered them on Tuesday and they rocked up this morning!

yeah, I wanted one about 38/40L but the only had a 32 or a 50. Thought I'd just go for the 50. Going to keep it forever. Will need a fair bit of pre heating I assume?

Just a quick update. I had the day off work so spent the day tinkering with the boiler.

Pretty pleased with how it's looking so far. Just the tap left to fit!
