How not to build a brewery...
I wrote a blog about how I messed up trying to upgrade the home brewery using Ecokegs.
TL;DR They're a pain in the arse. Don't rush things. Wire up your switches correctly...
Cheers,
Bob.

When it rains, it really pours down on your brewery.
Well all I can say is, I hope the cloud has a silver lining for you

Nope, still no leccy in the shed. Which is a shame, as I could still be brewing with my old plastic boiler and mash tun...themadhippy wrote:Have you got the electrickery sorted to yer shed yet?

It's going to be a long slow slog to get brewing again. We'll get there though...Wonkydonkey wrote:When it rains, it really pours down on your brewery.![]()

Re: How not to build a brewery...
cant be that major a problem, its possible the fault has "tracked" across in the switched spur so id check that out first, then the cable from the spur to the shed and finaly the wiring in the shed with all your brew gear unpluged/disconected.Nope, still no leccy in the shed.

Replacing the switched spur unit should be easy. Doesn't get round the fact that it's 13A and I'll be running two 3KW elements, the extractor, a fridge, lights and pumps through it, all at the same time. What I'm really after, is a dedicated line straight from the shed consumer unit to the main consumer unit.themadhippy wrote:cant be that major a problem, its possible the fault has "tracked" across in the switched spur so id check that out first, then the cable from the spur to the shed and finaly the wiring in the shed with all your brew gear unpluged/disconected.Nope, still no leccy in the shed.

Ah right, although a dedicated supply should be easy enough, bury or clip a lump of 2 core 10mm steel wired armour from the shed to the house,at the shed end terminate into an insulated enclosure and wire the live and neutral to the shed consumer unit, for the earth run a bit of 6mm cable from the shed consumer unit to an earth rod.At the house end wire straight into the consumer unit with a suitable mcb fitted-job done
