Brewbuilder 3kW Elements - Cable Gland Size needed

Post by HairyJamie » Mon Feb 06, 2017 3:02 pm

Hi,

I've just pulled the trigger on a new boiler setup from Brewbuilder and wondered if anyone could tell me the size of cable gland required for the 3kw bendy LWD elements?

Looking forward to some new shiny!

Thanks all,

Jamie.

Excellent - thanks, I've been looking at stainless glands and almost fell off my chair with the price!

I'm moving up from a 2.4kw element and hope to get a more vigorous boil on my double batches (about 50l in the boiler).

Good luck with your new build :)

I've got a 3kw pigtail in a Thermopot, I get a good boil of 60-65 Lt I even have to turn it down after the first 15 mins from 12.4 amps to about 6 or 7 amps. (I have a amp meter)
Well worth all the hasle of building the system

Interesting - I was getting a semi-rolling boil on my 2.4kw element so had hoped for something more vigorous. You have me worried that it will be too vigorous now!

My control panel doesn't allow me to dial back unfortunately, I'll have to see how this works in practice and then do some jiggery pokery where required!

My pot is insulated, but I could boil it at full power, I like to save a bit of power, but it would just mean I'd lose more in evaporation. Also if I do 25Lts then it's better to back off on the power, I have a pid, which you can reduce the power output in percentages, but I also have one of those big 4k dimmer things from China, but it needed a fan as the heatsink was not big enough. I prefer the dimmer as it's just a dial to twist, the PID is for mash temp water
I don't know your system, but I'm pretty sure you will be ok.

Cheers, my new control panel has three pids but at the moment only the hlt is actually controlled by an SSR.

Anyone know if the inkbird pids can dial back power using pwm ?

In the uk a minimum of 1.5mm,heat proof flex,something like https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/C ... ash50.html
Warning: The Dutch Coffeeshops products may contain drugs. Drinks containing caffeine should be used with care and moderation
