Cupboard warmer

Post by Vossy1 » Tue Aug 22, 2006 8:36 pm

Andy, I'm out with the sticky tape and bog roll again :P

A few of us on the forum have made chillers of one variety or the other.

I know that there are heating belts and aquarium type heaters about but.

I've got a small fan heater in the loft, its tiny maybe 12"w x 8"d x 4"h.

Provided I put a mains source to the thermostat couldn't I use it to warm my cupboard instead of cooling it down?

The ambient in our cupboard has been 20 deg c for the last week or so and will drop in winter for definate, which is good for lagers but not so good for ales or the wifes wine :(

Cupboard ambient now 18 deg so this is becoming an issue for fermenting :(

Might try a mini oil heater, ie, the electric ones

Anybody

The cupboards not that bib DaaB perhaps L 1.5m x W 1m x 1mH.

Re:- the light bulb, Ive got heating bulbs for the dogs kennel in the winter, not sure if they're infra red or U.V.

Obviously some sort of thermostatic control is req, I'm assuming these bulbs could be routed through the thermostat, afterall its only a glorified switch.

Should I be concerned about using white light with fermenting beer?

So would you bother routing the bulbs via the thermostat?

A lamp wired through a central heating type room stat would do the job nicely I would think.

Or put a standalone lamp on a timer switch and experiment to see what on/off variations meet your temp. requirements.....?
