Manifold or false bottom?

Post by Hop Monster » Sun Aug 27, 2006 7:33 pm

Hi there everyone!

New to this particular site but some of the names are familiar.

My question is this, I am using with great sucess at the moment a mashing bag, but need to progress and are contemplating either a manifold or a false bottom in my mash tun and the same in my boiler, What advice would you good brewers have for me?

Many thanks..........

I'd go for a slotted copper manifold. Pretty quick and easy to make, and very effective. Check this thread out: http://www.forumforfree.com/forums/inde ... r+manifold

Agree with BB about the copper manifold. However daab has a false bottom that he is keen for someone to use, in a homebrew sense :D

That also looks potentially more effective that the bucket in bucket method that I have adopted (plus less work!)

DaaB - first time I've looked at your mash tun construction page, top piece of work!

Edit: Moved this to Brewing Equipment.

I would go for the manifold but that's just what I'm used to. Very easy to make or cheap to buy. Make sure you have plenty of slots on it to reduce the chance of channeling (if fly sparging).

Why not try both, you can never have too much brewing equipment! :D
