Spare parts for Cornelius kegs

Post by Zebra » Tue Aug 29, 2006 8:28 am

Hello Everyone, I've just discovered the forum and very useful it looks too!
Maybe the answer to my question is somewhere on the forum, but I haven't had time to look at everything yet, sorry!
I've got two second hand Cornelius kegs. I'm in the process of 'sorting' them and need some spare parts. I've found UK suppliers for O rings and pipe connectors but none for the poppet valves and fittings on the keg itself. The USA people I've found seem to have an aversion to sending stuff over here. I've noticed references to 'Norman' as a Cornelius supplier, does anyone know if he - or anyone else can help.
Thanks.

I've ordered stuff from morebeer.com in the states. They've sent stuff to me several times.

I don't know a UK supplier but candirect.de in Germany ship to the UK and do corny spares (The Ball lock kegs are called 'NC series containers' on their store webpage - the spares are under 'spare parts for containers->spare parts for NC series'). I've never used them but I do plan on trying them out at some point.

Hi Steve,
I found the German place and will try it later today. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm going to try my local homebrew shop first though - you never know!

Norm does o rings etc but for major spare parts he says he'd have to rob them from other kegs and he isn't keen to do it. I've had no problems with his kegs - they're in great nick, noticably mostly made in Germany or Italy?

thanks for everyones comments. I looked at MoreBeer and the German company. I chose the German geezers as Homebrew were going to charge me $85 shipping. Bearing in mind I'd ordered a couple of rubber O rings and 4 keg couplers..... It's 15 Euros from Germany. Mind you, it's not here yet!

Hi Zebra,

I can't suggest anything that hasn't already been said however I'm interested to know what company in the UK you found for Cornie spares?

i'm in need of a new id for one of my cornies, and that candirect place looks just the ticket!!! :D

ten euros plus shipping is well cheaper than a US import. cheers for the link!

Aargggggggggghhhhhhh. I received my corny today and decided to give it a good old clean. One of the small o-rings from the pipes that go inside went down the plug hole. Had a look at a few sites selling parts, but I dont know exactly what it is called. Could do with one fast as I need to keg very soon. Could somebody please helf me find one, or if anyone has a spare one!

Will check to see if anyone can help when I get in as I am now going out for the night.

Thanks

Chris

I haven't heard anything from candirect yet two days after placing my order. Not very chuffed by their service so far.

Do the Hop & Grape have what you need? I use King Kegs myself but came across Short LINK while browsing their website, they say they will replace o rings, poppet valves & safety valves if necessary, so they must either stock spares or be able to get hold of them.
It may be worthwile giving them a ring.

Good idea. I've contacted The Hop and Grape. They say they have most parts in stock and are going to try and put them on the website today. Hopefully by the end of the weekend I'll know if they've got what I want. If so it will certainly be good news if spares are available in the UK. I don't mind buying from abroad but ordering from Candirect seems a bit strange, for instance payment via Paypal and the speed (or lack of) of the process. I'm waiting for contact from them regarding the order I placed at the beginning of the week. If The Hope and grape can sort everything I'll certainly have to cancel that order. I'll put up a post when something has happened.

I was in H&G the other day to pick up an order and I spoke to John about what "John Guest" push fittings he had in stock. He said he has about 30 types and is going to get them up on the website soon.

The reason I asked is that I'm thinking of changing my beer dispense line to the small gauge (1/4 inch?) tubing because then there is less beer in the pipe to go stale and also a greater pressure drop along the pipe so less need to reduce pressure in keg when serving.

I didn't think to ask him whether he has spares for Cornies but then I might have felt a bit bad doing that as it was there where I first saw a cornie keg but I didn't buy mine from him because Norm's prices were so much better (ok so I have to get them smelling nice myself but hey :P ).

Ah, so it's 3/16" rather than what I guessed was 1/4". What length of dispense tube do you use DaaB?

I've just had a look at the John Guest parts in the Johnson Valves catalogue and they seem to have quite a range but the part I can't seem to find is the one that screws onto the quick disconnect on the cornie - any ideas?

Will Johnson Valves and Hyphose sell in small quantities to non trade?

I've just placed an order for my cornie keg spares at H&G and cancelled the order at Candirect.....

i rebuilt both my cornies... ordered seals from http://www.homebrewshop.co.uk and http://www.brouwland.com (who are also cheap for disconnects BTW).

Bought new posts and poppets from http://morebeer.com for one of the kegs because they were a bit damaged

had no issues with any of them.

I was in Belgium last week, but wasn't close enough to visit the Brouwland shop, shame as they do stock a lot of equipment :(

as for the line, i'm using 5 meters of 3/16 to pressure-drop from circa 48psi
