Thanks for the advice folks - much appreciated!

Researching around, it seems that a hydrometer and a refractometer would be useful.

@LeeH - thanks for the links. That refractometer seems to point to the seawater version though. Is that correct?

Also, what equipment do you guys use for PH testing?

+1 on a Thermapen Digital Thermometer.

Very fast and accurate.

I'd also take a hydrometer over a refractometer - I have both and prefer the hydrometer.

Malt mills are all quite similar, I'd suggest getting a two roller with only one driven roller, and a cheap drill to power it.
Ingredients: Water, Barley, Hops, Yeast, Seaweed, Blood, Sweat, The swim bladder of a sturgeon, My enemies tears, Scenes of mild peril, An otter's handbag and Riboflavin.
