Malt Miller's MP-15RM pump for boiling wort?
Some time ago I bought an MP-15RM pump from the Malt Miller, the label on it says 'max 100c' so it should be just about up to pumping boiling wort.
Has anyone used this pump for boiling wort in practice; can it take it routinely (not just short term)?
Thanks!

Hi,
I have used mine to recirc and transfer boiling wort on my 60 litre system with no issues at all. Compared to my last pump it is pretty much silent too.
Incidentally, my pump says 120 degrees not 100 although it is the same model as yours.
Regards,
Matt

Re: Malt Miller's MP-15RM pump for boiling wort?
Thanks very much Matt, thats reassuring; I've very similar intentions for the use of mine.
Yes, I've used one for HLT duties and have been very pleased with the quietness, and the no nonsense performance. Not the biggest head in the world (as it were) but quite sufficient for my/many needs and it has been utterly faultless so far.
That said, mine does definitely say 100c, yet the webpage description I bought from and your pump also says 120c. 100c 'should' still be enough, but I might send them an email to see why the apparent discrepancy.

I seem to have something in the back of my mind telling me the pump head may have changed at some point. Mine seems to be stainless and not sure if yours is too?

Interesting thanks. Yes mine is also stainless - from what I can tell, it looks exactly like the one pictured and described on the MM website, except the label says max 100c rather than 120c.

Yes I have one but mine came from alipress for around 30 quid. So far working great I use it with my CFC my biggest bug bear is the screws to clean the head and the short lead

Re: Malt Miller's MP-15RM pump for boiling wort?
Thanks - I shall probably give it a go then.
I've a march may (like the chuggers) that I use post-boil on another system, and initially opened that every brew; but having found it always spotless (after pumping cleaner through) I no longer do so regularly. Maybe the MP pumps will be similar, but I'd want to open it every brew to begin with to check in any case, so thanks for the warning. It could possibly have better screws substituted if it becomes a regular thing.

Some sort of thumb screw would work rather than a cross head.
Harrison's brewery ,(formaly Idle valley) use two in there 1000 litre set up for recirc and sparging

Yeah, I've one that I use myself for recirc and sparging, its very good (and nicely quiet) in that roll, especially as the lift/head needed isn't very much.
I'm now looking to use my other for post-boil duties though, and recirculating boiling wort through for quite a while to disinfect - which can challenge some pumps that should theoretically take it. Thats mostly why I was wondering how people had got on in practice, the proof of the pudding and all that.

Well it's coping in a commercial setting as well as homebrew level so I think you'll be happy with it

Re: Malt Miller's MP-15RM pump for boiling wort?
One small note, good general practice is to keep the pump away from wort when boiling for an hour, and to cool naturally to ~60c then flush with 60c water or caustic solution after brewing. Most pumps nacker because of degraded seals, doing this will keep it in good shape for years to come.

Re: Malt Miller's MP-15RM pump for boiling wort?
Thats reassuringly quite similar to my process, though I use a metasilicate solution instead of the caustic it is still warm.
The main issue is recirculating boiling wort for a while to disinfect the pump and hoses, so it does see the boiling wort for a significant time. Possibly laziness on my part, rather than stripping and soaking in chemicals each use.
