Fermentasaurus Mod
Hi everyone
I'm thinking of moding my fermentersaurus dump valve to Tri Clamp fittings and was wondering about people's thoughts on my design.
The existing butterfly valve is pretty hard work and, I think, a bit small. Plus I find I waste a load of fermenting wort everytime I empty the collection ball.
My thoughts are to add this to the existing point at the base of the fermenter to allow for Tri Clamps;
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 2529711968
And then fit a wider 1.5" butterfly valve;
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 3369306701
With a 3/4" 90° barb under it;
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 3462677762
This makes the dump set up kind of similar to the chronical design except that has a 90° TC elbow with the butterfly valve at the end - is this more preferable or is the way I want to do it ok?
Hope that makes sense, I will try and elaborate with more pictures if not.....
Thanks

The is some Aussie who has done something very similar if you do a Google search, although I'm not really sure it's worth it.

Re: Fermentasaurus Mod
The usual challenge with this kind of thing is the connection between the plastic vessel and fitting (or bulkhead); it is often a weak point in terms of either hygiene or time/effort to clean. I don't know what the bottom of the fermenter is like, so it is hard to say anything very specific. But FWIW it usually helps to avoid having to seal the threads if possible.
If that can be addressed though, the upgrade seems a reasonable idea to me 'in concept'. However I would go for a much bigger barb or triclamp elbow; 3/4" OD will mean quite a small ID. Although if the FV's dump outlet itself is small, then perhaps not much would be gained by the upgrade in general. You'd also want to be sure that the FV and means of fixing can take the weight and leverage that the new fittings would apply.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts. The outlet gap in the swivel nut is going to be a major limiting factor I think so I'm going to put this off I recon. I'll spend a tenner and get a 1ltr soda stream bottle for the collection bottle instead.
Thanks everyone

Just be aware with the 1L sodastream bottle that it will sit below the bottom of the support frame so you need to ensure you account for that, e.g. by having a hole in the shelf the entire fv and support frame sit on.

Yeah I'm thinking about that one, I have a big glass fronted cola style fridge with a solid base so need to think about some supports for underneath instead. I'm sure I have some timber knocking around...

I think they have upped it to 55L now for the buffer one. They already have some in Oz but they are still tweaking/working on ramping up production.
