Replacement elements

Post by domejunky » Fri May 17, 2019 5:09 pm

My kettle element died during a brew last week, managed to finish off in the HLT. HLT element is looking pretty gnarly too. I've got 6 or 7 years out of them.

They were Tribune S6212 elements (DIN25?) - I'm not sure they were actually stainless. I used a 32.5mm QMax, and a 1.25" backnut. So ideally I'm looking for replacements that fit those holes.

Thinking about MrLard's Hombrew Builder 2.4kw LWD - anyone know what they come with (shroud, backnut, gasket?)

Any better options about?

Those come complete, are good quality and I have 3. They require a particular spanner to tighten the backnut and the hole diameter should be 40mm.

It might be worth linking to the particular product to avoid confusion. Brewbuilder does a couple of 2.4kw elements, one is a 40mm classic kettle style the other a 32.5mm straight style (like your tribunes) but I wouldn't think either of them are massively Low Watt Density. IIRC his LWD (and Ultra-LWD) elements are 3kw.

Ah, Thanks Kev for pointing that out. Mine are the other type.

The ULWD ripple elements are slightly better in my experience if you can pony up the extra.

Zero scorching making them easy to clean with just a wipe.

I like the look of those. Do you run them off a 13amp plug? I like using 10amp, leaves a bit of headroom...

No, 16A but 13A is fine if everything is up to standard.
