Large scale stir plate

Post by laithclark » Mon Sep 02, 2019 2:39 pm

I am seeking some advice for my brewery and creating starters for a 400l brew length.

Looking at Brewers Friend to scale up to sufficient yeast I would add 8 yeast smack packs to a 1036 OG 20 litre starter. On a store plate this would give me sufficient yeast count to pitch.

However that means there will be a lot of yeast produced so I need a strong unit to not only take the weight but to continue stirring it. Any suggestions would be welcome but I think motor power will be the challenge?

Thanks in advance

Micros tend to either brew regularly enough to crop yeast from one fermenting batch to the next, or just use bricks of dried yeast.

I don't think that stirring a 20 litre starter is a particularly practical idea to achieve and I don't actually think the stirring will achieve much.
Just make a home brew size batch of beer 1-2 days before hand and then use that as a very active starter.
Ingredients: Water, Barley, Hops, Yeast, Seaweed, Blood, Sweat, The swim bladder of a sturgeon, My enemies tears, Scenes of mild peril, An otter's handbag and Riboflavin.

8 sachets in 20l will ferment out in about 2 hours 😂

I’m not experts but I think nanos buy yeasts ready to go or use dry yeast. I know a lot of the liquid yeast suppliers do yeast to order for breweries
