Need help finding 30amp relays
Hi guys. In the process of building a control panel. I'm having troubke finding some 30 or 40 amp 240v relays. I want to fit these before the ssr switched lives so I can isolate the elements and ssrs independently of the pid.
Does anybody know where I can find something for this job?
Cheers

SSR’s can fail closed/leak so it’s a prudent to fit them as you are doing.

Re: Need help finding 30amp relays
Cheers Lee. Can these be switched with 24v DC power supply? As I'm trying to keep everything on the panel door running at 24v and 240 kept to the mounting panel inside. Jist keeps it a bit safer. I have 2x 2.4kw elements in my hlt and boiler. Plus a 3kw element in a separate Herms pot. I'm looking to control all these.from 3 pids. Would 1 contactor relay and one 40amp ssr for each set of 2 elements wired in parallel do the job?

You could use a 24VDC relay to energise it.
Alternatively use a 40A 24VDC contactor but they are £££££ and are normally only available in 3 pole format. Which of course is no issue just leave the 3rd pole empty.
Just run 230VAC through a 24VDC relay or change your control voltage.
Is your panel metallic?

Re: Need help finding 30amp relays
I was thinking 1 for the panel live in. And then 3 more - then 1 for each hlt and boiler and 1 for the 3kw Herms pot ssr. Or is this overkill!

Actually I think I've found some suitable for the job. What do you think to these.

Re: Need help finding 30amp relays
LeeH has advised a sturdy "British" contactor. But you've found a cheap Chinese dodgy-as-heck "40A" relay off Amazon marketplace . Yeah, I've fallen for one of them too, but I'm only switching a shelf cooler on-and-off with it. I'll leave it to LeeH whether he wants to endorse those relays.Eclipse9101 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2019 5:35 pmActually I think I've found some suitable for the job. What do you think to these.

I think you said earlier you'd like to "keep it a bit safer" by keeping mains off the front panel. So your solution is to rely on some unknown dodgy Chinese device? Have you thought there might be a reason why high power relays are difficult to find in the UK?

Re: Need help finding 30amp relays
Thanks for the info. I've not been able to find much on these relays from China. But I've seen them in a few panel builds on YouTube and not seen any bad press about them. If I used the British contactor for the mains in, I would still need 3 relays/contactors to isolate the ssrs via a switch on the panel. But the big British contactors seem a little overkill for this application?

40A thought a push fit spade connection....good luck.

Re: Need help finding 30amp relays
Well it won't be switching 40amps. It will be switching about 20amps. 2x 2.4kw elements on each. I think this should be ok as it's only half the relays rated figure. Plus they are DPDT so I can have each element on its own spade connector. Apologies if I don't know enough about this side of things. Piecing info together as I go along. Thanks for the help
