a few years ago I was given a square alluminium heater that can be used for 4 x demjlohns or 1X 5 gal bucket. Iv'e not used it yet but have had to dig it out as my 12 " tubular heater has failed. The only thing I have noticed it does not have any wattage rating stamped on it or a label. Anyone know what they are rated at ? I also spotted an advert for them on line and it was stated that they were suited for 4 demijohns but not reccomended for plastic 5 gall beer buckets as they caused the bottom to split !! Not heard that before !

Re: fermentation heaters
John,
25l needs about 40w and insulation.
I did a lot with heaters and mats last year, with some surprising results.
I know the thing you mean. Made by an English company does veterinary mats as well. Really nice chap.
Never heard of bottom splitting. Tested one of the richies mats brilliant thing, but they crack (not the bucket)

Re: fermentation heaters
thanks for reply. Its in an insulated chipboard cupboard I knocked together lined with polystyrene sheets and is fed via an ATC 800 controller and is now sat in an unheated garage in freezing lancashire maintaining 20 deg C. lets hope the brew turns out as good.
Re: fermentation heaters
Cracking setup. It will make superb brews.
