New toy

Post by drjim » Sun Mar 08, 2026 9:55 pm

I'm needing to get some brewing underway, thinking about how much work it takes to clean my mash tun pipework etc every time I use it - all lives outside. Whilst my 70L wood fired boiler is definitely a key part of my plans, I started thinking about BIAB in my buffalo 40l, then thinking about my pumps etc.

Then I thought about needing to clean it all, again.

So I have ordered myself a birthday present..

There's a plan to build a better brew shed area this year, so the 3 vessel approach isn't over, but I reckon this machine will be used a lot.

All-in-ones are the way to go, imo. Much easier to manage.

Ditto , my 80ltr thermopot 3 vessel system has not been used for years . All the faff involved in setting it up and packing away was putting me off brewing . GF is a doddle in comparison .
I buy my grain & hops from here http://www.homebrewkent.co.uk/

Might need to buy some new buckets as mainly been using a pair of 60l spiedel fermenters last year or two. I have a 30L klarstein stainless thing but the other 25L ones I have are a bit tatty from being used to store bottles, left in the garden etc.

More toy shopping - what fun!

I'm also going off the idea of big batches after making 60L of shed lager last October, it looked a bit cloudy but not worryingly, tasted odd but I'd had a virus and the usual tastebuds not working issues. Come to try it now and it's drinkable but hint of TCP and still a bit cloudy. Sadly I bottled the lot, all the time effort etc and now I may have to just open every bottle and pour it down the drain. Lot less annnoying if it's a 23l batch!

Yes, probably sort itself out by the summer, or at least enough that it'll be nice with a bit of lime!
