Panel Build

Post by nibber » Wed Apr 08, 2020 4:58 pm

Decided to build my own electric brewery panel.
Found a perfect little donor panel on an auction site it was an old sewage twin pump control panel.
Just laying stuff out at the moment pid controllers to be added and a load of other gear contactors, pump relays etc, will gut the inside and start over again all the gear inside is 24 volt.
Proper engraved labels to be added later.
A nice little project to work on under the current difficult times.

Was looking at getting the Inkbird-ITC100VH-K with 40A SSR’S + pt100 probes.
Has anyone used the Berme or Rex pid’s? they are about 1/3 of the price of the Inkbirds.
Unsure quality wise on the cheaper alternatives.

Nice! I started buying components for mine but now don’t have the funds to put it together being furloughed ect. I’ll be following this with interest!
Cheers and gone,

The Inkbird pid controllers and ssr’s and Inkbird timer have arrived, rough layout on the panel.
Large heatsink at top of photo is to be mounted on the top of the panel (Hole to be cut) and ssr’s fitted to it with thermal compound.
Time to start cutting holes!

Where did you get the supplies, I'm about to build a panel and I'm looking for supplier recommendations?
TIA

eBay is cheaper that any supplier even with trade discounts.

Cheers LeeH I had checked out ebay previously, but most of the suppliers seemed to be operating from China, I was burnt by ultra long delivery times by Aliexpress over the covid lockdown, with hopeless aftercare, so I'd prefer to deal with a local based company, at least I'd be assured delivery within a week rather than potentially 3 months, particularly if covid kicks off again in China. I'd checked a few local prices and to be honest there wasn't that much of of a difference. I was just checking if anyone had a particular recommendation before buying and finding out later that I should have asked

Just google your local electrical wholesaler, some are more biased towards process/control materials that others so it’s just a case of calling.

CEF
YES
Edmundsons

Even RS, but I’m surprised you cannot get what you need from a uk seller on flea bay.

Let me know if you need help, I’ve built 100’s.

Sorry for the late reply, sometimes life gets in the way of brewing, I'll sit down when I get a minute and draw up a list of exactly what I need and go hunting then, what are your thoughts on mixing voltages at the panel switches, I'm planning on using a bcs unit I picked up in the states a while back as my controller, it operates off 5vdc and I was thinking of wiring 3 position switches as manual /off/auto, which would require me wiring some of the n/o contacts with 230v and others piggybacked on the same switch with 5vdc, I can run the cables in seperate trunkings to the switches

Having thought about it again, I've decided to add another powersupply, and to opt for 24v coils on the contractors, so this will remove the risks associated with having 5vdc and 230v contacts in close proximity, it will also allow me to safely directly interlock the HLT heater contactor with a low voltage float switch, rather than interlock it through the software

No issues with mixed control voltages, just use another colour cable.

No issues with mixed control voltages, just use another colour cable
And the cable is insulated for the highest voltage present,so even if a wire is only carrying 5 volts it needs to be rated for 240v if its in the same enclosure as 240v cable

if your desperate timpson the keycutter/shoe repair/ipad fixer jack of all trades do it,but they aint cheap
