Sodium Metasilicate

Post by BurtonBrewer » Mon Feb 25, 2008 11:03 pm

A few years ago when I started brewing I use to use Ritchie Steriliser which contained Sodium Metasilicate. Ive been trying to do some research into Sod, Metasilicate and Ive found you can buy it for around £17.00 for a 25kg sack. I was thinking of buying a sack and sharing it with my local "Burton Beer Circle".

Has anybody ever come across this chemical, the info on Google seems very vague :? ???

Thanks guys

I use it. I've complained about my beer in the past but am getting used to it and there are so many other variables that the quality of the sanitiser probably isn't of greatest concern as long as it does the job consistently to the standard you need. I wash everything in sodium metabisulphite solution (campden tablet) after sanitising. I haven't found anything hairy on my brew yet.
