Sanitising bottle caps

Post by Minus The Bear » Mon Apr 14, 2008 2:21 pm

I have given my caps a soak in VWP, then a rise and put them in a jug of sodium metabisulphite solution.

Do i need to rinse the caps in cold water before capping the bottles?

would it be sufficient to just rinse off the VWP and then leave them submerged in cold water until i need them?

Once the caps have been rinsed off I just leave them in the bottom of the jug, as I then start to cap straight away. Why would you want to get your fingers soggier than needed by having to pick the caps out of water?
Others may recommend some no-rinse solutions, but so far I have had no infections or problems from rinsing caps of the VWP solution with tap water.

I just throw mine in a jug and cover them in boiling water with a splash of fairy. when im ready to start capping i empty them into a sieve and pour more boiling water over them to get rid of the soap. So far i've had no problem (yes i am touching wood right now)
