idophor

i have never used this but think i will get some as i would like to use a non rinse sanitizer to save time and hassel.

before i used VWP. when cleaning my f.v i would fill the whole f.v with water and then add the required amount of VWP and leave it to soak and then empty out the liquid into another bucket to use for other bits and then rinse out the f.v. by doing this i seem to be using alot for one brew whilst i read in the FAQ section that when using idophor 2 litres would usually do for a brew.

so if i had cleaned my f.v with soapy water to remove any scum or dirt and then made up the correct solution of idophor for non rinse purpose and simply sprayed the f.v and left for 30 seconds is this surficiant? or would i need somthing a little stronger to clean with in the first place?

thanks for that.

whats the advantage of using idophor over VWP if you have to clean and rinse beforehand anyway? it seems like i might aswell just use VWP and only have to do the first step.or is idophor good for sanitizing stuff just before use?

also for example if i was using VWP to clean bottles could i fill up one bottle, leave it for ..... seconds(not sure how many?) and then pour from that bottle into the next?obviously these would need rinsing well.i ask because this would save me making up loads of VWP when bottling and save money.

thanks again

Worth a good rinse after using soda - three rinses if filling and emptying, or a prolonged spray. Iodophor works better when acidified, so you don't want to leave traces of a mild alkali to neutralise that. The good news is that unlike washing-up liquid, soda doesn't stick to surfaces.

Can you use VWP on SS,or would it be better to convert to soda crystals and idophor, planning on using my new NO 70L at the weekend.

Regards Graham.
