Will my AG Beer be okay?

Post by DC » Tue Jun 09, 2009 9:59 pm

Hi all, I have just syphoned my 1st AG brew into my Cornie tonight =P~ after sterilising with 2.5ml of Videne solution in 2L of water but I did not rinse the Cornie after sterilising it as I have read that 1.25ml in 1L of water makes a suitable non rinse steriliser for Cornies :!: I have had beer in the Cornie before after sterilising with Videne but last time I rinsed it with cold tap water as I was nervous about not rinsing it ! But this time I just sterilised the Cornie and syphoned the AG brew straight in  So I want to know if my 1st AG brew will be okay :?: and not suffer any ill affects from not rinsing after using Videne solution :?

Fingers crossed !

Cheers DC

Had a link on the use of Videne in beer and his conclusion was at the no rinse levels suggested there was no taint or taste of the Videne in the beer up until 8 x the recommended dosage. So providing you stuck to the recommended dilution which from your post you did and you poured out any excess from the cornie after sanitization then you have no issues in my opinion. Will try and find the link for you.

What you did is exactly what I do everytime and I've never had a problem. When you consider that it's virtually tasteless at that concentration and the amount of beer that's going in there you're never going to detect anything. It will be absolutely fine. :)

I rinse my corni's with a kettle full of boiling water afterwards and use the pressure to force hot water through the hose and tap to rinse those also.Giving my corni a good rinse in near boiling water helps soften the seals on the poppets ensuring a good seal on the posts.
