Cleaning Boiler

Post by qtip83 » Mon May 11, 2009 6:39 pm

Hi,

I have managed to get my hands on a electrim bin boiler. The boiler has seen better days and need a good clean before i can start using it.

Does anymore have a good idea on how i can do this and will filling it up with water and boiling for 10 mins be enough?

you could try a good dose of citric acid, boiled then left overnight, that will remove any scale etc, then if there's any muck left a good scrub with a pan scourer, it should come up gleaming, make sure the element and around it is nice and clean.

we don't live in a majorly hard water area but still from time to time get a build up in the kettle, so it's a good few heaped teaspoons of citric acid granules in the kettle with a few cups of water, boil it up to dissolve the citric acid, swirl it about then leave it overnight, comes up gleaming

....you just have to remember to rinse it in the morning or the first cup of coffee is..err.. interesting... :D

Do people clean the elements after every brew, or wait for it to build up?

I use Bar Keepers Friend when ever I feel like my kit needs a DEEP clean.

I saw it in a shop the other day and they may have changed the logo but same shape White with Blue Top.
It's realy good stuff ( Acid based contains oxalic acid which is derived from rhubarb) just under £3 can be used as a paste.
