metabisulphite in spray bottles

Post by wobbly_bob » Wed Feb 03, 2010 10:33 am

Hi

I have seen on a few youtube videos of people making up sodium metabisulphite into spray bottles and storing it to use for quick sanitation. I always thought that the metabisulphites break down pretty quickly and could actually harbour bacteria if allowed to pool for a period of time.

Anyone have any ideas on how long sodium/potassium met can be left in a spray bottle and still be effective?

thanks

Good for neutralising chlorine, not good for sanitising.

Try iodophor or star-san for instant no-rinse sanitising.

Doesn't half get on your Lungs used in a spray bottle!!! But handy as stated above :)

I use this stuff in a washing up liquid bottle and use boiling water with my bins and FV's after using VWP, never had any problem with infection.

Of course, I wouldn't use it on it's own, although it does I find the two make very good partners though. Sodium met is also very good as an anti oxidant, I always leave the dregs behind before I fill up my FV.
