Videne Antiseptic Solution 500ml ?

Post by DC » Mon Apr 27, 2009 12:24 pm

Hi all, I am looking to use Videne antiseptic solution for sterilsing my Corny and just wondered how much people pay for it and where's the cheapest/best place to buy from? I enquired in my local Boots Pharmacy and the lady there looked in the supplier catalogue and reckoned it was £30.03 for a 500ml bottle + VAT  is that about right ? Or was she :^o

Cheers DC

Just ordered from Tesco this weekend and they were talking in the region of £5 for 500ml although they said this was a guide price.
They will order this today for me and I will be picking up at the end of the week and will be happy to advise on what the final cost was.

Cheers

£4.30 for 500ml from my local chemist. He had to order it but it is a standard item on the system so it arrived in the shop the next day.

The Boots lady must have been looking at the case price I reckon.

The 500ml from Tesco that I picked up yesterday was £5.80p, so looks like you hit an expensive one there.

cheers

Paid £5.99 from co-op chemist (been done :( ). They did get it for me same day though and were very helpful.
I went in local Boots chemist first and they didn't want to know.

You need a supermarket with a pharmacy counter - the sort of place where you can get prescriptions made up and staffed by people in white coats. Videne is not a prescription item but usually needs to be ordered specially.

You might want to stock up on it. The EU iodine "ban" is real but I don't know how far it reaches. I was in a camping shop at the weekend and they have a sign explaining why they are no longer allowed to sell iodine-based water purification products. The tone of the sign was very definitely "they are idiots for banning it but we have to comply". Google "EU Iodine ban" to see lots of complaints from backpackers, walkers and other outdoor types.

I've no idea whether stuff like Videne will be affected but Brupaks sound to be discontinuing their Idophor product.

If there is an issue with obtaining Betadine/Videne/ Iodine based disinfectants, try talking to a local farmers supply store, BTF Iodophor is available in 5L containers quite cheaply . . There are two forms one with lanolin (used as an udder wash) and one without (Used as an equipment wash). . . . you need the one without lanolin!! . . . . Funnily enough I have to get 5L of the lanolin based one to deal with 'rain scald' on my new mare . . . and the cost of it from a Vet is insane
