Cleaning HERMS/RIMS breweries

Post by onelegout » Thu Sep 30, 2010 1:46 pm

Hi everyone.
I'm nearing the completion of my 10 gallon eHERMS brewery, and I was wondering what the best way to clean it would be? The brewery has copper, brass, stainless steel, silicone, and several washers made of silicone or other plastic material. I presume that the HLT and mash tun just need to be clean, but I had planned to pump the cooling wort through the HERMS coil with cold water running through the HLT for cooling. Would this be a bad idea? If so, I might build a counterflow wort chiller, but again I'm not sure what the best way of keeping it clean would be. Until now I've been a stove-top brewer, and cleaning has been a case of washing up a stockpot and a coolbox mash tun.

I'm just a bit lost as to which sanitisers/cleaning solutions are ok to use and which aren't! :(

Sorry to gravedig this thread but I'm going to be crossing this hurdle too... mostly stainless but some brass! I'm currently all plastic and just VWP the hell out of everything, but once I go shiny whats the best thing to get things sanitised for brewday?
