Beer line cleaning, how often

Post by Dennis King » Sun Jan 09, 2011 8:29 pm

Decided to flush my hand pump and line today using the purple stuff. First time since I set up the system around 4-5 months ago, apart from when I started. Took a few flushes before it came through purple which made me wonder, although the beer has always tasted good should it be done it more often. It says on the container once a week but I assumed this was for pubs with a higher volume of beer running through.

If this is the first time you've done it in 4-5 months, and you are not dead yet, you're probably going to be OK doing it once a month.

I'm not a doctor or a qualified biologist, so I could be off the mark...

On the other hand, it's not going to kill you to do it once a week, either!

Your tastebuds should be able to tell you when it ready for cleaning Dennis.

I do mine each time I disconnect it from an empty cornie, prior to connecting up the next full one.

Drinking 1st pint after cleaning tonight, taste the same as before. Point taken will flush at least once a month, 2 polypins.
