Sodium Percarbonate

PBW is just too expensive to be disposable, I was thinking, I can pick up 25kg of Sodium Percarbonate of eBay for £56, is it a reasonable alternative as-is?

I use it as you can often find it in poundland but have just found 5l of thin bleach in Lidl is only 99p

I've used it 'as is' for a couple of years now, does a fine job for me (and a few other people from the AHB forums, shared a couple of 25kg bags).
I mix it with hot water and do nothing more than leave anything plastic or glass soaking until clean (often overnight), but tend to take a bit more care with SS.

cant use bleach cus of my stainless vessels and pipes, buts it fine for me plastic FVs. i am using PBW at high strength for multiple uses and does a grand job but after a few brews it goes slightly green(disolving my copper tank conectors) so need to chuck it every fourth brew....with this stuff at this price I can use it with gay abandon!

I've used it 'as is' quite a lot and it seemed to work well for me too, as a cleaner - probably on a par with those oxy cleaners.

I now mix it 2:1 with sodium metasilicate - supposedly that mixture is closer to PBW, and metasilicate was a similar price to percarbonate (in 25kg sacks) so the cost didn't particularly increase. It does seem to work more effectively than plain percarbonate but it may be slightly subjective as to how much.

I don't think bleach is actually a no-no on stainless if you keep contact times low, but that makes it no good for soaking stuff in so (like you) I tend to avoid it for heavier duty cleaning.
