guys,

I am a bot of a noob when it comes to sterilising, in fact I usually dont bother with bottles and use thin bleack on pins and vessels tubes etc.

My stuff is always well cleaned

i prob lose botles at a rate of about 0.3% which to me is a justifiable cost against the benefit of not sterilising and rinsing 100 + bottles at a time !!!

i.e about 60p against 20 hours work

This Starsan stuff , is this a none rinse steriliser you just squirt in and then leave. You actually put your beer in without rinsing???? . Can anyone explain. Also if it really is good where can I get it.

I like the idea of a quick squirt bottle sanitiser as it seems very easy and if you can keep solution made up for w hile even better.

My water Ph is 6.42 btw

Cheers. Its about time I took my head out of the sand with this sterilisation stuff.

Thanks

Ian

You should be able to get it from your normal home brew supplier. I got mine from here:
http://www.the-home-brew-shop.co.uk/aca ... _454g.html

Expect to pay £10-15 for about half litre, which is going to last a lifetime give that you dilute it before use so heavily.

The other good thing about Starsan is that you can mix it up and keep it in a spray bottle so it's ready to use whenever you want it.

The "excommunicated" Daab/Chris-X1 has an easy to follow video on youtube showing a pretty straightforward approach to cleaning and sanitising bottles with Antiformin-S spray ("Beer Line Cleaner") followed by StartSan spray. Works for me!

Extra tip: Drain the StarSan from each bottle into a bowl to soak the crown caps prior to capping.

it is really great suff, if you mix with suitable water anyway.

Just a reminder though, after reading another thread today where they'd gotten confused, starsan is a sanitiser but not really a cleaner/sanitiser.

Cheers

It's basically called Iodophor, I understand you can use it in a spray bottle or as a no-rinse quick dip sanitiser. Do some searches on iodophor usage there will be lots of info out there.
