Starsan and bottling

Post by Skittlebrau » Wed Mar 21, 2012 1:09 pm

Hi all

Looking forward to bottling AG#1 in a couple of weeks or so. I was planning to wash the bottles, then sanitise by putting a few squirts of Starsan solution in the bottle and on the outside of the neck, then shaking and leaving closed until it's time to prime and fill. Any reason this is a bad idea?

I've always 1/4 filled the cleaned bottles and then given them a good shake for 10 -20 seconds. When I pour the star san out, I dip the neck of the bottle in to the bucket. Then I leave them sitting upside down in a cleansed and star san sprayed plastic crate whilst I get the other bits stanitized and the priming syrup added. When it comes time to fill, I turn them all over and fill as normal, leaving the caps on loose. At the end I cap everything properly before cleaning up.

Never had any problems yet.

Whenever I finish a bottle, I give it a rinse, a couple of squirts with StarSan then cap with these http://www.biggerjugs.co.uk/plastic-res ... -1599.html.

When I want to bottle a brew, I remove the cap, invert the bottle onto a bottle tree and then proceed to fill and crown cap.

The only time I wash bottles now is when I get given bottles from friends. Not a problem doing it this way, for over two years. Prior to that it was a PITA washing everything and sanatising on the day.
I buy from The Malt Miller
