Wilko Cleaner / Steriliser and a corny keg

Post by Scrumpy » Wed May 15, 2013 12:09 am

Hi, I've just got myself a new 23ltr corny keg and I was wondering if the wilko cleaner / steriliser can be used in the corny keg as I've heard using vwp or chlorine based sterilisers can damage stainless steel. On the wilko bottle it has sodium percarbonate listed as the chemical. Is this safe to use with stainless steel?

Probably a dumb question but need to double check!

Thanks

Chlorine based cleaners are ok to use on stainless steel as long as you don't soak too long. 10 mins at max, then a good rinse in hot then cold water.

+1

I used to use oxy as a cleaner, but I don't like the way it sometimes throws a sediment. I now prefer to use a liquid cleaner for cornies and lines.
I use purple beer-line cleaner (diluted 1:100) in mine for 20mins as part of cleaning regime to clean corny and beer pipes / tap.

The purple line cleaner is a mix of caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) and bleach (sodium hypochlorite), so its powerful stuff, but OK if not left too long and rinsed thoroughly afterwards.
