Oak barrel
Hi all I have been given a 56gl whiskey barrel in oak but water has been stored in it for some time to stop the staves opening I wish to clean and make it sweet again any suggestions

Re: Oak barrel
i use the wall paper stripper to fill the casks with steam. with my small steamer and casks it works well (gets over 110C in the cask and can sustain that for 10 min no problem). just make sure you drain the casks properly. i rushed the process the other day and forgot to drain a cask and then subjected Orlando to some overly oaked (and under conditioned) beer
not good.
