Re: A fly! Is it ruined?
Have we established yet whether the fly was actually ruined or not? Sounds like it was dead.........that's about as ruined as a fly can get

Re: A fly! Is it ruined?
I think that fly was about as ruined as I was after several pints of my last IPA.

Now you have me thinking graphs.........as if i don't have enough to do

How did this turn out in the end Matt?
I was checking my latest brew yesterday and I saw a fly (granted it was larger than a fruit fly - I hear they're tiny) and can't be ENTIRELY sure that it didn't come from inside the FV... I'm already slightly worried because i'm using a different kind of yeast (top-fermenting) and have put a hoparoma tablet in there as well... So all of my previous knowledge seems useless to me... It hasn't finished fermenting yet, and I know that the basic advice for this stuff is 'Wait and see', or rather 'Wait and taste' but I can't help but fret...
So... Was it destined for the drain?

It survived! No sign of contamination. Cleared quickly and tastes great.

Re: A fly! Is it ruined?
What we need to do now is plot a correlation between number of flies and how ruined the beer is. I propose 500 parallel batches of 1 gallon each, varying from zero to 499 flies.
