Yeah, all very interesting but as I said "it's MY rule of thumb". It works that way for me and my equipment.

Re: Starsan
Made up a solution of 1ml in 625ml today. Put it in my spray bottle. Wasn't nearly as foamy as I'd expected... should I be worried? Should I test the pH and make sure I haven't made some daft error? If so, where can I get the pH strips?
Re: Starsan
It doesn't go very foamy, more like a really weak soap solution, a few bubbles if you shake it about a bit. If the solution is clear and not cloudy then you are probably ok but I had to test my Ph to be sure, too much at risk!
Re: Starsan
That's reassuring. I'm going to have to go with it as no way of testing the pH at present... eek!

Re: Starsan
So for fermenters do you chaps fill up with Starsan/water or just spray from a bottle?

Re: Starsan
100ml of star san and shake like crazy . . .generates clinging foam and covers the FV surface. . . .no more that 30 seconds contact time is 'required' although I tend to go for more like 5-10 minutes . . . not shaking more 'soaking'

Unused weeks . . . it's so cheap to use that I throw away after a single use.far9410 wrote:Hi, after making a solution, how long is it safe to keep? weeks?
