Hello all

Do you sanitise your boiler before boiling your wort, or is the process of boiling good enough to sanitise?

You only need to sanitise post boil equipment though giving it a good clean is always good.

Likewise, I always give it a thorough clean with thin bleach after it's been used and put it away. On a brewday I just give it a rinse and don't worry about sanitising again as the boil will kill anything nasty.

Yep, same here. Make sure it's clean, but there's no need to sanitise it.

I just tip out any dead flies, mouse shit, scrape off any mould, and crack on with the brew. After brewing it gets hosed down in the garden and the elements cleaned off, ready for the next time.

I do a quick wash to remove trubb and rinse with boiling water after use and put lids on / cover and store ready to use for next time without any prep.

Hose out after brewing, scrub with scourer, invert and leave to dry . . . but then it is a stainless boiler

I have attacked my Electric boiler with Antiformin, which really got rid of the patina 8 years or more of brewing had built up . . . But then that is Stainless as well

Sanitise . . . . no point really

How long does it last in storage? I have a one gallon tub of the stuff, given to me years ago, sitting in my shed.

I can't think how long I've had my 25L container got to be 4 or 5 years though. I don't rely on it for sanitising, but it is an incredibly effective cleanser . . . . being highly caustic it would be

Clean your boiler?
Mine gets hosed out after use. Thats it. I can't imagine anything surviving the boil for an hour or so.
I want mine to get stained, makes me look like i've been doing it for years then.

I don't tend to bother cleaning my boiler too much, a good scrub, leave to dry and it's ready to go again next brew.

scrub cack off elementd.
wash out boiler.
Rinse.

Quick spray with peracetic and then leave for next time.
Clean off any slight mould that may have grown before starting again.
