Sodium Hyperchlorite 15% w/w (Pool Chlorine)

Post by macleanb » Sat Mar 01, 2008 11:14 am

Hi

Does anyone have any experience in using the above for sterilisation? As it is just the active bleach ingredient (comparing labels) it would seem ideal - and cheap.

However I am not confident in working out the dilution ratio. My bottle of bleach says 4.9g sodium hyperchlorite per 100g, but my pool chlorine just says what's in the title.

If I dilute 1 part with 2 parts water - do I end up with a solution which could be used volume for volume like bleach (i.e. could then be further diluted as per bleach usage).

Many thanks

I don't know about pool chlorine but industrial hypochlorite is sold at about 15%w/V except that the 15%w/V refers to the available chlorine and not the sodium hypochlorite. If yours is rated as this then you will have better than six times the quantity of hypochlorite compared to your bleach. If it is of this strength it will probably have a cap that automatically vents.
