Hi all,
Have been listening to the podcast with Charlie Talley of StarSan.
His idea about n mixing thin bleach in water and then adding vinegar sounds good to me as it is a no rinse sanitiser in the correct quantities.
After coming back to brewing after a long gap, I defo didn't miss the Chempro/VWP soak and rinse three or more times routine!
My question is, the thin bleach I have now bought is ASDA own brand which says it is less than 5% chlorine. Others have said that Tesco's own is about 1.5%.
Charlie says in his podcast that the ratio he is calculating is based on 5% chlorine in the bleach.
Given Daab's formula of 5ml bleach, 5 litres water and 5ml vinegar, how do we adjust this for the ASDA/Tesco thin bleach with less than 5% chlorine.
Do we need to adjust?
Thanks,
Dave Whyte

Thanks DaaB,
Now a bit confused
Would we not be better just buying StarSan or Iodophor then as you suggest?
You say you would still rinse the solution. Is that just a precaution to avoid a chlorine taste in the beer?
I see from your website guide to sanitising that you use household bleach.
With bleach or even VWP there is the rinse stage using un-sanitised tap water. I never had a problem before doing this but surely it does somewhat defeat the purpose of sanitising if you then introduce un-sanitised tap water? Or am I thinking about this too much
Cheers,
Dave
