Cleaning cornelius keg

Post by Shoit » Mon Nov 02, 2009 8:43 am

Hi there,

Sorry if this has been posted before, I've read posts about cleaning the inside of kegs when received i.e soad crystals etc then usual sterilisation. I am wondering how to clean and sterilise the dip tube and disconnects? Any advice greatly received. In my current cleaning cupboard i have VWP, Antiformin S and Starsan.

Thanks in advance

Kevin

Some guys dismantle them but I've never felt the need. Normal strength VWP will do the trick. Fill the keg to the brim then depress the middle of the Out Post connector to enable the dip tube to fill with cleanser. Treat the lid in a separate bucket then rinse everything with clean water. As a final gesture you can always pour in a kettle of boiling water, fit the lid, shake to pressurise then (carefully) repeat the Out Post manoeuvre , to properly rinse it through. Best cover it with a towel or something first!

I sometimes give the keg a little gas and then attach a small bit of pipe to a black disconnect and fit onto the OUT post. Works for me and never had a problem yet.
