Are there bugs in tap water?

Hi all,

After sanitising brewing equipment and then rinsing with clean tap water from the cold supply, is it possible to allow bacteria into the brew via the cold water supply, or is it free from bugs that could cause a problem

Mate, if there were bugs in your tap water you'd know about it already because you'd be very ill and your water company would be in an enormous amount of shite. Presuming you live in the British Isles (geographical terminology) and I think most people on this forum do, we have some of the best quality drinking water in the world. If you live in London, the drinking water supply system (that being the ring main) is actually the most advanced in the world. So there's nothing to worry about, except for anything that might be living up your tap...... (I used to be a water quality tech, so I came to know these things).

No pathogenic (things that will make you sick) or beer spoilage organisms.

There shouldn't be any bugs in the supply to your house although there almost certainly are in any hose or tubing you use.
