Hello folks
I've run out of brupaks iodophor and I need to do some bottling tonight. I have some Tesco baby sterilising fluid <5% hypochlorite and 4.6% distilled malt vinegar and I was thinking of making up an acidified bleach solution as a no-rinse sanitiser, good idea/bad idea? Alternatively I could go and pick up some regular thin bleach.
No rinse bleach solution
Re: No rinse bleach solution
Thanks Chris. I don't think I'll take the risk.
It's looking like a regular bleach solution, although I was thinking about the dishwasher method - what do you think of that? The beer is all going to be consumed this week... I should get away with it even if it's a less than perfect sanitation?

Re: No rinse bleach solution
Strange, I've been through pretty much the same problem. Ran out of iodophor, and now nobody seems to stock it. Can't imagine why not, it's great stuff. I'll prob have to switch to starsan now, if I can get it.
Anyway, just today I was listening to the Basic Brewing Radio podcasts about starsan, the one in which they discuss bleach and vinegar as a no-rinse sanitiser. I've never tried sanitising in the dishwasher, but that's supposedly a good way too. These are both ways I've been meaning to experiment with. I say give it (them) a go!

Re: No rinse bleach solution
The rinsing seems too much like hard work. I don't have a tap where I'm bottling. Looks like the dishwasher will do on this occasion, or maybe I could put them in the oven with tonights chicken
. I seem to remember using the dishwasher method before and the beer went off after a couple of weeks (luckily just one or two bottles), the infection could have come from any number of places though. Thanks for the input chaps.
