Externally battered and dirty (Some had Tetley's Cask leftovers in, its Dry-Hopped, so the same Tetley pish with a handful of hops in it)

We had David Smith doing the tests to see how much organic matter was in the casks after one regular cask wash (Rinse / Caustic Wash / Rinse & Steam)...'Loads' is the answer and it take a further caustic wash / Rinse & Steam to make them a Habitable place for Real Ale.
I asked a few questions and found out that large breweries that have a quick turnover of Beer never put Caustic cleaner anywhere near their casks and rely entirely on a Hot water wash and Steam.
Micro Brewery practices are so much nicer to the beer than the Nationals, no wonder mass-market Beers & Lagers are some crap.
